Welcome to YMCA Camping

This year the YMCA celebrates 125 years of camping! The Berwick Area YMCA continues its long tradition of camping this summer. With a variety of programs we have something for everyone. In all camp activities, staff the the core character values that serve as the basis for YMCA programs: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Values like these will help kids of all ages make good life choices no matter what the challenges lie ahead all the while taking experiences with them to last a lifetime.

New!

Camp Lunches Provided through Summer Feeding Program
This summer the YMCA will offer the opportunity for campers to have lunch provided through the Summer Feeding Program on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at no additional cost. This program will provide cold, fresh and nutritious lunches for our campers. Participation in this program is optional, all parents are welcome to still pack their child's own lunch. All children will still need a packed lunch for our Wednesday field trips.

YMCA Camp Philosophy

The Berwick Area YMCA is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and meeting human needs in our community. The YMCA 's programs, service and leadership build healthy spirit, mind and body by putting Christian principles into practice. We develop, and conduct programs which foster personal growth, responsible citizenship, healthy lifestyles, environmental stewardship, and the personal rewards of service to others. Supported by volunteers, the YMCA is open to all; financial assistance is available based on need.

Children are dropped off at these sites in the morning and are transported by bus to the YMCA to join the rest of the camp. Dedicated and Caring Staff

Our leadership staff have many years of experience directing YMCA camping programs to literally thousands of children. Counselors are chosen for their maturity, desire and ability to be good role models for campers, educational background and ability to interact with and create a fun environment for kids. Our staff are trained in CPR, First Aid, behavior and conflict management, risk management, leadership, and thorough emergency procedures. We maintain a staff-camper ratio of at least 1:10. Your child's safety is our first priority.

Fun Activities

YMCA day camp offers a wide array of activities including field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, games, sports, nature activities, special events, songs and skits and more. Even rainy days are fun!

This year we will have "Fear Factor Friday" where the campers will be taking part in various gross, messy, fun and challenging activities!

Many of our activities include getting wet, dirty and very messy! Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate clothes to take part in such activities.

Age Groups

Pioneers (Entering 1st and 2nd Grade) - The pioneer age group places a special emphasis on helping our young campers become accustomed to the long and exciting camp day. Extra supervision, including our Head Counselor's presence are maintained to provide the extra help this groups needs.

Adventurers (Entering 3rd and 4th Grade) - Our Adventurers have the opportunity to enjoy a higher level of competition and games. Special emphasis on team-work and building friendships are cultivated within this group.

Challengers (Entering 5th and 6th Grade) - The Challengers enjoy a much higher freedom of challenges and explorations. They are given the opportunities to take on helpful and special tasks and to be role models for our younger campers.

Sequoias (Entering 7th and 8th Grade) - Our Sequoias are provided a greater and unique camp experience. They will have multiple chances to take part in extra activities and off-site trips that our younger groups do not. A great amount of emphasis is placed on leadership development, especially amongst younger campers.
